Graveside service for Janet McQueen Sweatt, 89, of Dumas, TX, will be at 3:30 P.M. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX with Rev. Robert G. Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mrs. Sweatt passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Dumas, TX. Janet was born October 11, 1921 in Hall County, TX to the late Mr. William McQueen and Mrs. Effie (Breeding) McQueen. She was a 1939 graduate of Memphis High School. She then went on to attend West Texas State University in Canyon, TX. She married Billy Albert Sweatt on June 8, 1940 in Memphis, TX. He preceded her in death on March 6, 2002. Janet worked as a secretary for Plains Machinery in Amarillo, TX. She was a past president of Northwest Texas Hospital Woman’s Auxiliary and was past president of the Amarillo Federation of Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Women’s Forum, Philomatic Club and past treasurer of the Texas Federation of Women’s Club. Janet was also a typist during World War II in San Diego, CA. She moved to Dumas, TX in 2009 from Amarillo, TX. She is survived by her son, Mike Sweatt and wife Lynn of Glenview, IL; her daughter, Susan Sweatt of Dumas, TX; five grandchildren, Brian Sweatt and Brad Sweatt both of Overland Park, KS; Ian Sneath of Longmont, CO; Amanda Sneath of Dumas, TX; Laura Sweatt of Glenview, IL; three great-grandchildren, Micala Lusk and Julie Lusk both of Dumas, TX; Calliope Sweatt of Overland Park, KS.
