J.P. "Hap" Johnson Jr.

Graveside service for J.P. “Hap” Johnson Jr., 93, of Memphis, TX, will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 2, 2011 at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Robert G. Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Mr. Johnson passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Memphis, TX. Hap was born December 18, 1917 in Memphis, TX to the late Mr. Porter Johnson and Mrs. Katie (Stephens) Johnson. He was a 1933 graduate of Memphis High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving in World War II as a mechanic. He married Betty Barbee in March of 1950 in Childress, TX. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2004. Hap was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was also a farmer until retiring in the mid 1980’s. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. He is survived by his brother-in-laws and sister-in-law, Rex Peeples of Amarillo, TX; Bobby Barbee and wife Dixie of Lakeview, TX; his nephews, Danny Martin and wife Vivian of Memphis, TX; Jerry Wiley and wife Roberta of Desert Palm, CA; Ben Wiley of Memphis, TX; Keith Robertson and wife Sherry of Carrollton, TX; Carl Wayne Robertson and wife Kaye of Lubbock, TX; Coy Johnson and wife Sharon of East Texas; Monte Garren of Eldorado, OK; and other nieces and nephews.
