Services for Joyce C. Ward, 74, of Frederick, CO formerly of Canon City, CO will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis, TX with Rev. Daniel Downey, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Memphis, TX under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 27, 2011 at First Southern Baptist Church in Canon City, CO. Mrs. Ward passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in Lafayette, CO. Joyce was born April 12, 1937 in Memphis, TX to Lee Roy and Ima Pearl (Phillips) Widener. She was a graduate of Memphis High School. Joyce married Johnny Boyd Ward in 1958 in Lakeview, TX. He preceded her in death in 1998. Joyce’s passion for quilting was revealed in her many beautiful quilts created through the years. She was a charter member of the Needle-n-Eye quilt club. Joyce was involved in many other community activities including, Home Extension club, 4-H Leader, and High School Rodeo. She enjoyed sewing, designing western wear, decorating wedding cakes and catering special events. Joyce was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Canon City. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Matt Ward of Grand Junction, CO; her daughter, Cheryl Jennings and husband Gary of Frederick, CO; her brothers, Donald Widener and wife Lana of Benbrook, TX; Mike Widener and Rick Widener and wife Mary all of Baird, TX; Therman Widener and wife Dorcille of Memphis, TX; her sister, Linda Foxhall and husband Frank of Memphis, TX; her grandchildren, Scott Jennings and wife Stacey of Brighton, TN; Steven Jennings and wife Amanda of Montrose, CO; her great-grandson, Jack Boyd Jennings of Brighton, TN. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hughs Funeral Home, 514 N 10th St., Memphis, TX 79245.
