Services for Mr. Jerry F. West, 71, of Memphis, TX will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Sexton, officiating, Rev. Dale Miller, assisting and Tim Fowler providing the music. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Jerry was born August 18, 1939 in Rogers, AR to the late Mr. Gryce West and Mrs. Madge (Francis) West. He was a 1957 graduate of Texas High in Texarkana, TX. He then went on and attended Texarkana College, Washita Baptist, University of Oklahoma and the University of Kansas. He married Eleanor Laney on April 18, 1959 in Texarkana, AR. They moved to Memphis, TX in 1984 from Hobbs, NM. Jerry worked for GTE until retiring after 33 years. He then went to work for AT&T. He was in the Arkansas National Guard, Memphis Lions Club, served on the Memphis Independent School District School Board. Jerry served on the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission from 1989 to 1991. He was a past Municipal Judge in Memphis and an avid golfer. He was currently employed as a correction officer at the Roach Unit in Childress, TX. He is preceded in death by his brother, Bobby West. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor West of Memphis, TX; one son, Roger west of Clarendon, TX; one daughter, Beth Messick and husband Mark of Panhandle, TX; four grandchildren, Erica and Josh Messick both of Panhandle, TX; Jean West of Pampa, TX; Kaleigh West of Clarendon, TX; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Ryan and two nieces and one nephew.
