Memorial services for Loren Christopher “Slim” Butler, 49, of Higgins, TX will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Central Baptist Church with Rev. Wes Harper, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mr. Butler passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011 in Shattuck, OK. Slim was born March 10, 1962 in Denver, CO to the late Mr. R.Q. Butler and Mrs. Willa (Hall) Butler. He attended schools in Canadian. He worked as a roughneck in the local oilfield during his early years and later received honors in an engineering program from Texas State Technical Institute. Thereafter, he became a commercial maintenance engineer in the Dallas and Fort Worth area. He is preceded in death by his son, Christopher David Butler and his brother, John Steven Smith. He is survived by one daughter, Vanessa Nicole Butler of Dallas, TX; three sons, Jesse Michael Butler of Canadian, TX; Zachary Lee Butler and wife Cristina Maria of Savannah, GA; Billy Barnett of Stillwater, OK; his daughter-in-law, Cortney Butler of Higgins, TX; three brothers, Ronnie Butler and wife Michelle of Azle, TX; Phelan Ray Butler and wife SuiMei of St. George, UT; Ralph Smith and wife Molly of Mesa, AZ; two sisters, Debra Cockrell of Darouzett, TX; Diane Monroe and husband Clay of Iraan, TX; five grandchildren, Ruby Brigee Bennett, Neal Daniel Butler, Landon R.Q. Butler, Elijah Barnett and Izak Barnett. The family suggests memorials to Operation Kindness of a Favorite Charity.
