Mass for Sylvia Garcia, 51, of Memphis, TX will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Father Jim Schmitmeyer, officiating. Inurnment will be in the family cemetery in Pleasanton, TX at a later time under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home in Memphis, TX. Sylvia passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 in Childress, TX. Sylvia was born July 25, 1959 in San Antonio, TX to the late Mr. Santos Garcia and Mrs. Pauline (Sotelo) Garcia. She was a 1977 graduate of Poteet High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. She later received a Master’s in leadership from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. She worked in the police force for 27 years in San Antonio, TX. She moved to Memphis, TX in 2009 from San Antonio, TX. She is survived by her life partner, Teresa (Tracy) Talley of Memphis, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. The family suggests memorials be made to the Childress Regional Medical Center Hospice, P.O. Box 1030, Childress, TX 79201.
