Irene Brasell

Services for Mrs. Irene Reed Brasell, 88, of Flint, TX formerly of Memphis, TX will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Memphis, TX with Andrew McQueen, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Irene passed away Friday, May 20, 2011 in Frankston, TX. Irene was born July 23, 1922 in Newlin, TX to the late Mr. Walter Spruill and Mrs. Bessie (Tucker) Spruill. She was a graduate of Newlin High School. She married W.H. “Hank” Reed on November 12, 1938 in Memphis, TX. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1987. Irene was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She moved to Flint, TX in 1999 from Memphis, TX. Irene married James Brasell in 2002. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was preceded by four brothers, R.B., Elmer, Roy and J.T. Spruill and one sister, Kara Widener. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Binkley and husband John of Flint, TX; Nita Brundige of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Susan Abshire of Raleigh, NC; Shawn Binkley of Houston, TX; six great-grandchildren, Deric and Derin Vacca both of Wellington, NC; Michael Abshire of Greensboro, NC; Wesley and Christopher Binkley and Brandon Elmore all of Houston, TX; one brother W.H. “Dub” Spruill of Amarillo, TX. The family suggest memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, 121 South 8th St., Memphis, TX 79245.
