Cleo Isaacs

Services for Mrs. Cleo Isaacs, 98, of Canadian, TX, will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kade Curry, officiating. Burial will follow in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Canadian, TX. Mrs. Isaacs passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Canadian, TX. Cleo was born August 17, 1912 in Hollis, OK to the late Mr. Ernest Locke and Mrs. Dora (Campbell) Locke. She was a 1930 graduate of Hollis High School. She then went on to receive a degree in teaching from West Texas Normal College in Canyon, TX. Cleo moved to Canadian, TX in 1934 from Canyon, TX. She married A.K. Whiteside in the early 1930’s. He preceded her in death in 1936. She later married John C. Isaacs Jr. on June 12, 1946 in Pampa, TX. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1990. Cleo taught school in the Canadian Independent School District and Pampa Independent School District. She was a member of several organizations in town such as P.E.O. Chapter I where she has been a member and past President since 1949, Bridge Club, Book Review Club. She was the 1966 Canadian Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1951, was a past Elder and taught Sunday school for many years. Cleo was also known to be one of the best cooks in Canadian and also volunteered her time doing devotionals at the Edward Abraham Memorial Home. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Karen Isaacs in November 18, 2003. She is survived by two sons, John C. Isaacs III and wife Grace of Canadian, TX; Sam Isaacs and wife Gladys of San Marcos, TX; five grandchildren, Eric Samuel Isaacs of San Marcos, TX; Melanie Elizabeth Isaacs of San Marcos, TX; Chloe Rocha of Waco, TX; John Edward Isaacs of Abilene, TX; Adam Ryan Isaacs of Canadian, TX; her cousins, Charlotte Shockey of Chickasha, OK; Mardema Ogletree of Lubbock, TX. The family suggests memorials to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 South Forth St., Canadian, TX 79014 or Hemphill County Association Inc., P.O. Box 1122, Canadian, TX 79014.
