Sylvia Alewine

Services for Mrs. Sylvia Alewine, 88, of Memphis, TX will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Church of Christ with Tom Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Sylvia passed away Sunday, February 13, 2011 in Amarillo, TX. Sylvia was born April 11, 1922 in Perrin, TX to the late Mr. William O’Dell and Mrs. May (Judd) O’Dell. She was a 1939 graduate of Memphis High School. She married Monty Alewine on April 11, 1943 in Memphis, TX. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2003. Sylvia worked for J.H. Morris as a cotton classifier. She then went to work at First State Bank and became vice president. She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women and a member of the Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by two brothers, W.B. O’Dell and Taylor M. O’Dell and one sister, Georgia Mack. She is survived by two sons, Bob Alewine and wife Janet of Humble, TX; Dwight Alewine and wife Jenny of Amarillo, TX; one daughter, Linda Neighbors and husband Jim of Temple, TX; one sister, Vaughncile Kiser of Rockdale, CA; 10 granddaughters, Michelle Tallman, Katrina Bernard, Monica Burlingame, Jo Beth Lingo, Lindy Kowalik, Karen Kotara, Amanda Alewine, Melanie Alewine and Melissa Alewine, Shainna Alewine, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The family suggest memorials be made to the Church of Christ, 1625 North 18th, Memphis, TX 79245.
