Services for Mrs. Honeria Helm, 88, of Memphis, TX will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 17, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert G. Blum, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Hughs Funeral Home of Memphis, TX. Honeria passed away Thursday, January 13, 2011 in Memphis, TX. Honeria was born April 24, 1922 in Childress County, TX to the late Mr. O.D. Phillips and Mrs. Mattie (Adams ) Phillips. She attended grammar school at Harold Chapel and was a 1939 graduate of Memphis High School. She married John Nelson “Dude” Helm Jr., on June 21, 1941 in Lelia Lake, TX. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1989. They moved to Memphis, TX in 1985 from the Gilpin Community in Childress County, TX. Honeria worked as a secretary for Federal Land Bank in Memphis, TX and later in Childress, TX where it had moved to. She retired in 1985 after working 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Dwight Thomas, four brothers, Cecil, Vernon, R.B. and Ray Phillips and one sister, Ima Widener. She is survived by her daughter, Jane Thomas and husband Delbert of Guymon, OK; her Goddaughter, Samann Watkins and husband Ty of Monahans, TX; her grandson, Drew Thomas of Wheeler, TX; her great-granddaughter, Kylie Thomas of Gruver, TX; two brothers, Orval “Nig” Phillips and wife Mildred and Troy Phillips and wife Anita all of Memphis, TX; three sisters, Corine Henderson of Amarillo, TX; Faye Elsberry and husband Bill of Farmers Branch, TX; Ava Dell Clark of Lakeview, TX; three sister-in-laws, Iva Dean Phillips, Wanda Phillips and Flora Mae Phillips all of Memphis, TX. The family suggest memorials be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 801 South Fillmore St. # 460 D, Amarillo, TX 79101.
